In 1938, R.P. MacLean bought into the paper and replaced Rose as publisher and editor. He changed the name to The Courier in 1939. MacLean was one of Kelowna's outstanding citizens. He hobnobbed with the rich and powerful, but didn't hesitate to humble them in his weekly editorials, often on the front page, during his 38 year tenure at the paper. In 1956, he sold The Daily Courier to Thomson Newspapers.
